"Your Best Year Ever" by Michael Hyatt
If you're anything like me, the idea of "New Year, New Me" makes you roll your eyes, heave and stay off Insta stories for a couple of days... But this year, it's less about "new me" than "quit the s**t and sort your life out"!
So, in the spirit of goal setting (and most importantly, achieving), our Vero Book Club pick for January 2024 is "Your Best Year Ever" by Michael Hyatt.
The book starts by debunking the common misconceptions about goal setting, emphasising the importance of setting the right goals and crafting a plan to achieve them. Hyatt's concept of the 'double win' is a game-changer, advocating for success both personally and professionally without sacrificing one for the other (which is where I feel like I fall down most of the time).
One of the most compelling aspects of the book is Hyatt's emphasis on the importance of a well-defined and achievable vision (i.e. less googling workouts and before and after pics while sitting on one's backside, more get out and actually walk, Becca). He guides readers through a step-by-step process to create a clear vision for their lives and then breaks it down into actionable steps.
Hyatt doesn't just stop at setting goals; he addresses the inevitable roadblocks and setbacks that hinder progress. His insights on overcoming obstacles and staying resilient in the face of adversity are very motivating, and 'Achieve Your Goals' framework helps you to take on challenges as they inevitably surface.
What sets this book apart is its interactive nature - Hyatt includes exercises and reflection sections after each chapter, turning reading into a practical exercise. These exercises encourage introspection and application of the concepts discussed, making the book an immersive experience rather than a passive read (which I found really useful).
All in all, it's been a great read. But the proof will be in the pudding - or not in the pudding...I really need to stop thinking about pudding 🙄!
